This tool can quickly allow you to convert any ASCII character into its Unicode equivalent. When you need to quickly turn some content into Unicode, you need to have a clear and defined idea of what to do. This is used to help you quickly cut-and-paste the content from our page to wherever you need it. Today, a Unicode text converter can take any form of plain text – such as letters, numbers, and punctuation – and transform it into the obscure characters that make up common Unicode. I paste in a paragraph from the Wikipedia page: the pasted paragraph is all in Arial.Trying to quickly and easily adjust your text to find the right style? Then our Unicode text converter could be just what you are looking for. Press Enter to start a new paragraph: the new paragraph is in Arial. I change the font selector to Arial and type: the text is in Arial. You can manually set the default fonts for Writer under Tools > Options > OOo Writer > Basic Fonts.īut, even without changing the default font, if I do:įile > New > Text Document the default font is TNR. There is no specific font specified in the HTML, so Writer just uses whatever its default font is, which depends on what fonts you have available. If I need to copy material from the web, I use Edit > Paste Special > As Unformatted Text, then reformat it in OOo.Ĭase in point: as far as I can tell, the Wikipedia page uses a font named "sans-serif", which can be defined in the browser to be whatever specific font you like. I find that it takes enough effort to clean up the mess that i don't bother trying to copy the formatting. This is partly due to "irreconcilable differences" in the way text on the web and text in Writer are formatted, and partly due to deficiencies in Writer. For some simple cases it may look reasonably similar in most cases there will be major differences in some cases it won't look anything at all like the source. Generally speaking, you can't copy/paste formatted text from a web browser into OOo and expect it to look "the same" as it did in the browser.
